Broadcast 2.0+
An “unauthorized” hack of the GREAT shareware network
messaging extension Broadcast.
Changes in this “unauthorized“ version:
• Added some cool new icons like Tweety and IBM Sucks
• Added a new SND resource that announces “You’ve Got Mail”
when Broadcast receives a message from another user on
your network, instead of the boring beep you got with the
standard release.
I’d like to have added the ability to assign color icons
to outgoing messages, but attempts at doing so failed.
If you know know how to do this, let me know.
This version was originally hacked to suit my own personal
tastes, but was such a hit at our office that I decided to
share it with others. If you like it, please support the original
author. Full docs and the author’s address are included within
the software.
To use, drag to your system folder (sys7) and it will be placed
in the Extensions Folder, then restart. Broadcast is an RDEV
(chooser device). To send a message to someone else on the network
(must also have Broadcast+ installed) select chooser, then
Broadcast icon and the user to send message to, Click OK. Type your
message, click & hold down on icon to choose a new icon, then send!
That’s it!
Broadcast+ is System 7.1 compatible and has NEVER crashed any
of our systems. We’ve tried ALL of the messaging systems out
there and found Broadcast to be the SIMPLEST and MOST RELIABLE
of them all. Great for sending phone messages, idle chat, gossip,
whatever.....
